This trend is being driven in part by the needs of working parents, but, as Karen Pittman of the International Youth Foundation suggested, it is also driven by political momentum. Given the current opportunities and support for expansion of after-school programs, she observed, it is critical to figure out how to seize the moment to support expanded after-school programming as well as increased and higher-quality research.
